You do not need to be good at something creative in order to enjoy these benefits. And anyone with practice will improve. There are substantially more benefits in the process of being creative than in the outcome. Creativity may include photography, painting, cooking, home decoration, pottery or a multitude of other pursuits.
1. Stress Relief.
Taking time to do something you love, enjoy or just have fun doing is vitally important. Not only does the practice of being creative help with everyday problem solving, it brings a lot of fun and joy which reduces stress. Getting lost in what you are doing and just focusing the attention on that creative activity becomes very meditative.
2. It becomes very freeing.
One of the great aspects of spending time being creative is that nothing is right or wrong. Creativity means trying different things out without judging ourselves as everyone sees things differently. It's about the process of relaxing into it and not pushing with the mind. The mind will want to judge and guide. Being creative is best practiced without much thought. Just relax into it and unwind.
The process becomes a path to authenticity. As we create we explore our being, what we think and believe. We question these beliefs and start to realise that perhaps the rigid views we hold might not be true after all! The more time spent being creative the more we move to our true authentic selves.
When being creative you experience a deep relaxing time of being timeless. Time feels limitless in the creative zone and slows us down.
By having creative outlets we replace time that perhaps was not spent wisely drinking, eating and consuming too much, with time spent on our creativity. It saves money and is no doubt a much healthier lifestyle.
6. New friends
You will get to meet other people who also enjoy the same creative outlet as you. No one is there to judge and no one cares about your day job!
If you decide to start a creative activity with photography then I can certainly help with camera selection and also providing camera lessons so you get the most out of the gear. I also have a good friend who provides art lessons. Please share your creative pursuits in the comments area and the benefits you have enjoyed.
